Gowrie Main Bathroom Renovation
This bathroom was a perfect example of "just because it looks alright, doesn't mean it's built alright". This is a second story bathroom, with a bedroom and ensuite located below it. The owners started experiencing some leaks and asked us to help diagnose and repair the leaks. As soon as we removed the first tile, the problems presented themselves. No waterproofing, tiles fixed on with gyprock glue, flooring fixed down with gyprock screws, joists cut in half, plumbing not completed to standard and the list goes on. This was extremely dangerous with all the weight of the tiles, bath and shower the floor could have colapsed at any time. The owners were incredibly lucky it didn't.
Our team had to carefully disassemble and replace the flooring system without damaging the ceiling below, installing new joists, fibre cement flooring and sheeting all throughout the bathroom. The owner requested that we frame in a new shower niche and shaving cabinet, as well as repair the existing skylight. The end result? a neat, stylish and functional bathroom completed properly and leaving the owners with a result they can trust will last them for many years to come.
Kambah Pergola
The original pergola on this house was built in 1975, it served its time well however as per its age, it started to deteriorate. The owners had wanted a large outdoor entertaining area for quite a while and have entrusted us to design and construct a space that will suit their needs. We went with a roof-mounted pergola beam system, meaning the pergola sits above the roof of the house. This allows for ventilation without impacting the insulation properties of the pergola and still letting the original gutters function as designed. The roof mounted system also means the pergola sits higher than normal, ensuring there is as much space as possible. This is needed because we will also be constructing a large spotted gum deck beneath the pergola in the near future.
The Pergola was constructed from H4 treated and primed pine painted the colour 'Basalt'. We used laser lite 3000 series roof sheets in the colour 'platinum' with basalt gutters and downpipes. We also installed a nice spotted gum feature wall which provides absolute privacy, whilst still allowing airflow. To finish it off we installed two large roller blinds which do an amazing job of still letting a good amount of light through whilst blocking 95% of UV rays. Meaning on those hot summer days when the blinds are closed this is still a nice space to relax in without overheating.
Bruce Deck Replacement
This job first started as what the clients assumed was a simple decking board replacement. Because the original boards were fixed down with nails instead of screws, the decking boards were starting to detach. However as soon as we removed the first decking board we realised there was a much bigger issue at hand. The sub frame of the deck was completely rotten and crumbling underneath their feet. The more boards we removed the worse the damage was even to the point of multiple joists crumbling in half because of the rot. The whole deck then had to be ripped out and started again.
Our team installed new treated timber bearers and joists with vapour seal water repellent tape and 90mm Merbau decking boards on top and around the face of the deck. All fixings used are stainless steal which is the standard for all our decks and pergolas, meaning you will never have to worry about rust being a problem. We also used Qutek CD-50 decking oil to ensure the timber is sealed and protected from the sun.
Braddon Apartment Laundry Renovation
This laundry renovation is a great example of how we can make even the smallest of spaces work for you. This customer came to us after just purchasing a new apartment in Braddon, they needed help figuring out how to make their small laundry space located inside a bathroom, more functional and useful without so much dead space. We incorporated new base cabinet and sink, alongside a 'marble look' bench top, floating upper cabinet and wall hung clothes dryer. This all gets hidden behind a pair of bi fold doors keeping the bathroom looking tidy.
This apartment also only had one cupboard for storage, which had no shelving at all inside. We incorporated custom shelving to accommodate their wall mounted vacuum cleaner and multiple shelves for storage.
Monash Feature Walls
This client approached us because they had lots of bland, unused space in their home. They felt like it needed something to make these spaces unique and stand out more but wasn't sure how. We were able to listen to their ideas and work together to come up with a design that both suited their style and budget.
Because the existing wall that we were installing the cladding on was not straight, we had to install 18mm timber battens that we could ensure were exactly plumb and dead straight. These battens also allow some space behind the feature cladding for the electricians to run their cables without having to worry about interfering with the existing wall. We also installed heavy duty timber blocking near the bottom of the wall for future floating cabinetry to be bolted onto.
